Tron Legacy pioneers a parallel digital universe of what goes on inside computer circuitry. It’s a novel concept where the protagonist gets sucked into it completely. His vision is to create a world of a perfect universe. But his partner has other plans. The result: He is trapped by his partner in the choppy waters of a digital world gone wrong.
You don’t have to be aware of the Tron Legacy videogame to know what’s going on. But the film fails terribly. While the tech is definitely eye-catching, there is nothing else going for it to make it truly worth it. The result? Ennui sets in minutes after the film begins. And if you thought, things are going to heat up after the intermission, even that is hoping against hope.
However, the concept of a digital world is something that other filmmakers will build upon and make it their own. Hopefully, Tron Legacy will spawn better films in the days to come.
