While Akshay Kumar starrer Kambakkht Ishq is hyped too much and might not work, there are two films that might just work because of their themes and its unconventional cast (John Abraham, Katrina Kaif, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Irrfan Khan). Ofcourse, the filmmaker matters too like in the case of New York – producer Aditya Chopra. Not that the direction is left to a newcomer. It’s Kabir Khan who managed to turn heads with his different style of filmmaking in Kabul Express. What also scores for New York is its contemporary theme. Set in New York, it’s about three friends whose lives turn upside down after the 9/11 attacks when racial profiling rears its nasty head. Wait till June 26 for this one.
On the other hand, Love Aaj Kal promises to be a joyride and an eye-opener at the same time. Directed by Jab We Met director Imtiaz Ali, the film stars Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, Neetu Singh, Rishi Kapoor, Rahul Khanna and Vir Das. It’s about a couple that swears unstinted love before marriage but seem to be on the verge of a split after tying the knot in an urban jungle. Going by the way, Imtiaz Ali handled a similar subject before in Jab We Met, I have high hopes on this film more than New York. Let me wait till July 31 to give you my final verdict.
