The other day, I watched Jerry Maguire and looked up the internet to read the ‘mission statement’ that gets him fired as a sports attorney. He pens down his thoughts titled: The things we think and do not say: thoughts of a sports attorney.
I would call this an affirmation he does in writing. An affirmation that he sticks to after his midnight bout of conscience pummels him to surrender to the higher consciousness.
But the best part? He sticks to his mission statement. Of standing up for honesty. Removing lies. Working for work and not profits. And knowing deep down in his heart that money follows good work sooner or later.
With such an affirmation, can the universe fault with him on this? Not at all. He sets things in motion. What Jerry was asking was a drastic change in his worklife. Obviously, it had to start with his firing. He had to start his career on a clean slate with new-found values and stick to them. And this demands guts, conviction and a never-say-die attitude.
After all, it was the end of the working world as he knew it. And drastic measures demand drastic solutions. So his innumerable clients go away and he is left with only one. And that someone is also the most difficult and hard to convince. If he can turn around this football player, he can turn around the industry of sports attorneys and how they view business.
In just the same manner, when someone says ‘it’s going to be the end of the world the way we knew it’, it only means that all of us are going to start from a clean slate. That free will still exists. That those who are righteous will survive. That those who are unselfish and believe in their higher selves will rock the world.
The upshot? Write your affirmation now and stick to it like your heartbeat. With every passing beat, you should be getting closer and closer to your goal. Jerry Maguire has shown the way. We have to follow it.
