I am mighty pleased that the Congress-led alliance (UPA) has defeated its harshest rivals – the BJP-led NDA by a fantastic margin of over 100 seats! What’s more, these elections have also routed the Left parties which are against globalisation.
This is a stupendous achievement for the Congress and the Indian electorate. This can only mean more peace, harmony and economic progress under the able leadership of economist prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh. Now I only wish the left and the BJP learn their lessons and stop harping on communal issues to win over vote banks. The Indian electorate has truly matured and cannot be swung by any of these religious overtures.
After a black became America’s president, this is the next best news for people in the world. A whole new era has begun in Indian politics. Now, one can easily predict that Congress could register a majority of votes in the next general elections! And that’s a good sign which could catapult either Rahul Gandhi or even Priyanka Gandhi to the seat of the prime minister.
My only cautionary note is this. Congress and its functionaries should not ride rough shod now that they have garnered a comfortable majority with their alliance partners. Instead, they should work towards eradicating poverty and ushering a new era of progress that honours everyone, irrespective of caste, creed and colour. It’s about time, they shed their lethargy, corruption and ineptness of the past and get back to working for the masses with a new-found zeal.
Jai ho, India!
