Accused of raping an 18-year-old maid, Shiney Ahuja (Gangster, Haraaron Khwahishein Aisi, Life in a Metro) is in a big soup with medical reports saying that he has indeed raped his maid. What could further escalate his fears is that the maid could well be a minor as the medical reports say she could be aged between 17 and 18 years. If convicted, he could face imprisonment and this could even spell the end to his promising movie career.
Could it be a case of liquor-induced crime? Possible. Could it be a conspiracy? Possible. Could it be sex by mutual consent that later went awry? Possible.
And even if it is indeed rape as alleged, Shiney could escape because rape convictions are less than 20% in India. The reason? Lax police force, victim turning hostile (and this happens when powerful people are involved), and the general gender bias that believes that the female might have provoked the male.
Life is no longer shiney for Ahuja anymore. What an irony!
P.S: Shiney is married and has a two-year-old daughter!
