Yes, a film on Sonia Gandhi is ready for release. Starring newcomers, one of whom remarkably resembles late prime minister Indira Gandhi, it might create some ripples across the nation. But, I am not sure if it will indeed release because the people behind it aren’t too well-known, even though one of them happens to be a senior bureaucrat.
However, if it does, I am not sure how good it will be. After all, a leader like Sonia deserves a superlative product, not a C-grade hand-me-down.
However, Writer-director-producer Kumar Kiran seems hopeful that Sonia’s victory with the Ballot Box will also translate to box office returns once his film releases.
The film stars, Purva Parag in the role of Sonia Gandhi, with veteran actress Asha Sharma playing late Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi.
Kiran, the retired Commissioner of Income Tax, isn’t new to films. He earlier made unknowns films like ‘Jawahar’ (Hindi) and ‘Nehru’ – The Jewel Of India (English) in 1989.
His new film titled ‘Sonia’ – A Love Story – Love for an ‘Indian and India’ is a dedication to Sonia Gandhi. The makers say it’s an “emotionally charged movie within a movie which has a gripping side plot of the making of the movie itself”.
Hope the viewer doesn’t get too sidetracked and loses the plot, while the producer loses his monies.
