Yup. Anushka Sharma is yet another Bangalore girl who has made it big on the India map, after Lara Dutta, Deepika Padukone, Vaishali Desai, Rani Jeyraj (Miss World) and Nafisa Joseph (late MTV veejay) among many others.
When she came to me many moons ago, she hadn’t even got a proper portfolio done of hers. She had come to me after fashion impresario Prasad Bidapa recommended her as the face of the future. So when I asked her to come over with her pictures, she handed me pictures that were far from flattering. It was 7pm already and I had a deadline to meet.
Her father had come along with her. He was in the defence forces and urged me to do something about it. Looking at her, I realised she could do with a good portfolio.
I asked her to get some traditional and modern dresses the very next day for a photo shoot done by our in-house photographer bang on MG Road. It was the nerve centre of all things commercial in Bangalore.
And that’s how she made her first debut in a print publication.
Today, she is all over the place as the co-star of Shah Rukh Khan in the blockbuster hit, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. Am I still in touch with her? Nope. I lost touch with her soon after this story as she had moved to Mumbai to pursue her modelling dreams.
However, her name continues to bog me down because my wife is a big fan of her beauty. She finds her skin immaculately clean and glowing. And what’s more. She wants our future babies to resemble her. Can there be a bigger fan than her?
